Oye, mi canto – Hear my voice
“Oye, mi canto” is more than just singing. It’s an opportunity to create real connections within the Hispanic and Latin community. It’s about building bridges between those who are experiencing lack of language interaction opportunities and those who are more fortunate in Speaking the language. “Oye, mi canto” connects the desire of learning the Spanish language increasing awareness & understanding of cultures. Members gain experience in singing and showcasing their bilingual talents.
The repertoire promotes songs and melodies from Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Spain, Australia and others.
Providing a safe and supporting learning environment “Oye, mi canto” aims to challenge the learning of a language and build positive relations that supports community bonding and inclusion.

Juniors Voices (7-11 years)

Duration: 45 minutes
Time: 4.15pm – 5.00pm
Cost: $12.00 per class.
Seniors Voices (12-17 years)

Meet The Mentors
Beatriz Vergara
Conductor
Born in Chile, Beatriz comes from an artistic and passionate music family. During her childhood she began taking ballet, piano and violin lessons. Continuing her passion in the arts, she began taking lessons of oboe in conservatory of music in the University of Chile and has been a member of choir since age 13. In addition, she was a member of DEMUS UMCE Choir, which her father conducts. She was a member and an assistant choir conductor in the Alfredo Berndt Choir and the DEMUS UMCE choir. Her passion in music and singing continues to shine in making a positive impact for kids and younger generations.
Alana Lymn
Accompaniment
Alana has been involved in the performing arts her whole life, starting with learning piano at the age of 5. She studied music in the Specialist Music Program at Woodville High School where she played piano, clarinet, and vocals, and performed in the school’s Wind Ensemble and Senior Choir. Following high school, she explored theatre more by performing in productions with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of SA, Blackwood Players and the Flinders University Performing Arts Society (FUPAS). Over the past year she has delved back into music, teaching piano and leading singing workshops through FUPAS. She is passionate about giving the next generation of young musicians a supportive and engaging space to learn and develop their skills.
Valeria Alonso
Director
Born in Argentina, Valeria began her dancing career at the age of 6. Her passion is dancing, performing and singing. She has over 15 years experience in working with children in helping them to succeed in the arts. Her knowledge, charisma and energy as a mentor for many children has allowed them to grow, succeed and further develop their artistic talents. She encourages any child who would like to participate in this program to apply and have a go. She looks forward to meeting children who are passionate in the arts and wanting to gain new skills and the correct guidance to become artists of their own dreams.
